The Environment:
Sustainable
development, with a manufacturing base. Good quality housing with
an insistence on affordable housing both for rent and purchase,
provision for open space, and schools capacity to be taken into
account, together with other services including shops.
Development:
Encouragement for manufacturing to return to Doncaster. We
have lost too much. Service sectors are all very well, but they
do not provide the number and quality of jobs that Doncaster needs.
Our tradition has been in production, and we have all but lost
it. Manufacturing today is not the old smoke stack version, that
we have had to put up with, to the detriment of the health of
Doncaster people, which leads me to health
Health:
It may not be well known but the new style mayor will have
a large influence on health issues. I would strongly go for additional
facilities at both Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montague Hospital.
We are the largest town in Britain and larger than many well known
cities. We deserve the best facilities at both hospitals.
Crime: The thorny one. I was recently asked by the press
what I thought about crime in Doncaster. I said I though it was
a bad idea (tongue firmly in cheek). Many people have expressed
their opinion on the causes, from deprivation to drugs. I have
to say there are causes, including greed, but the root cause must
be the way children are brought up, not just by their parents
but their extended families and the general culture around them.
I know there are criminals who come from good solid families,
but they are the exception. Generally speaking crime arises from
the environment of the criminal, whether it be tax evasion, or
other kinds of thieving. An effort must be made to change the
culture of greed and/or plain not having respect for other peoples
property. The drugs scene in the whole of Doncaster is terrible,
even in the suburban villages. We all know about it, but we don't
have to accept it. The so called drug barons are known and can
be dealt with if we are willing to make the effort. I am willing
and determined to do just that. Can I say "I have a plan"
?
