b Nomination requirements

19 Rule 10 of the Mayoral Elections Rules provides that a nomination paper must be signed by two local electors as proposer and seconder of the candidate, and by 28 other local electors supporting the nomination. Rule 9 requires each candidate to submit a deposit of £500 to the returning officer by the last day for delivery of nomination papers. Rule 49 requires that the deposit to be returned to the candidate if they receive more than 5% of the votes cast at the election, or if they do receive sufficient votes, for the deposit to be forfeit to the local authority.
