AVOID PRESSURE TO GO PRIVATE

The top issue for voters is the NHS.
People remember headlines in the paper on the eve of the last election saying either Grimsby or Scunthorpe Hospital would be downgraded because of Tory underfunding.
Thanks to Labour, it did not happen. In 1997, our health authority got £134 million. Now it gets £234 million. Our hospitals are safe from the threat of closure.
But the Tory threat is real. Tory health spokesperson Phil Hammond says: “People would look to the NHS when they had serious life-threatening conditions and private insurance to help them with those things where the NHS had to ask them to wait”.
Ann Widdecombe states people should go private so that the NHS ‘will be freed up to look after the dispossessed’

“Tories will force you to go private. If you care about the NHS vote Labour.”

A campaign based on local issues

Shona McIsaac (labour candidate, Cleethorpes) – campaign profile. Making a difference is the key to Shona McIsaac’s re-election campaign. Chatting to parents outside Bursar Primary School in the resort, she said: “My campaign is focused on local issues”. “There is the big national picture that everyone hears about but the most important points are local ones where I, personally, want to make a difference to the people’s lives. “I feel I can do so by being an MP”. “Sometimes people do not realize things like child benefit increases, for example, have been done by the Labour Government”. “The Conservatives have already pledged to take away tax credits, which means many families in Cleethorpes are set to lose a phenomenal amount of cash if the Tories get in”. “We are not claiming everything is perfect just now. There is still work to be done but we have made a good start and we are making a difference”. From Grimsby Evening Telegraph Wednesday May 23rd 2001

Shona McIsaacs Adopted at Immingham

At a packed meeting in the Immingham Civic Centre, Shona thanked supporters and friends for all their tremendous support over the past four years, but cautioned that while they should feel proud of the changes Labour had made so far, they shouldn’t be complacent in the election fight. She said” We all know there is so much more to do to put right the damage done to Britain by the Tories.”br “But we should feel quietly proud of the difference we have made in four years.
More for schools and hospitals. The minimum wage. Low mortgage interest rates.
Unemployment down. The over 60’s getting £200 winter allowance. Free TV licence for the over 75’s. Tax credits for working families.”
The fight for fisherman’s compensation was won because Labour MP’s worked with residents to secure £25 million. It was Labour that wrote off the debt on the Humber Bridge and awarded Barton £5 million to decontaminate the Water’s Edge”.
“Labour have started to make a difference, to improve our country. The best way to make sure that continues is to vote Labour.”
